I had a dinner with Sam Allarydyce last week
|
Last Wednesday, I had a football Q&A dinner at the RAC club and Sam Allardyce was the guest speaker.
I keep seeing new threads about Sam leaving, could he go to Sunderland etc etc but the only chance of him leaving is if the club do not offer him a new contract in the summer.
He said he loves it at West Ham and he really wants to be at the helm for our first season at the OS. He then followed by saying that the club will be aiming for Champions League football within 5 years.
Other snippets from the evening are:
When he first took the job, he didn't realise how big a club we are and it took him by surprise.
Mainly deals with David Sullivan and talks to him every day. David Gold has very much taken a backwards step and Brady is fully concentrating on the OS.
The club do want to sign Alex Song, all depends on if he agrees to take a wage cut.
Sam was shocked that Reid signed a new deal but was over the moon when he did.
Reece Oxford has the potential to break into the side soon and should go on and play for England if he keeps his head down and works hard.
Overall, our academy since he's been at West Ham has been pretty useless and that needs to change.
This current squad is one of the best he's had and it was his best transfer window.
JJ Okocha is the best player he has worked with.
All in all, he spoke well and only had good things to say about the club. I’ll be shocked if he’s not our manager next season.

I'd love to hear what makes West Ham a Yo Yo club, I'm sure we've been out of the Premiership 3 seasons out of 20 odd Premier seasons yet Sam has saved West Ham and stopped the rot. The thing is the apologists believe it, we are like a Wolves in their eyes.

Cheers Hearney for an interesting, novel post on BFS.
I have a strong feeling we will hit some form here to the end of the season. Obviously the season lines up for it, but the last two games have shown a bit of fight in us that suggests to me we're rounding a corner.

Just to get some perspective on our last twelve PL games consider this.
Chelsea and Arsenal twice, Spurs, Manu, Southampton and Liverpool. From those games we got just three points. From the other games namely Hull, WBA, Swansea and Palace we got five points. Clearly we still struggle to take points from the teams above us but we have a run of winnable games coming up and hopefully our squad will be fitter too. We've missed players whether in attack, midfield or defence and this run has served to highlight the thinness of our squad beyond our best starting eleven.
Hand on heart, and I only attend home games, the stand out bad result in this run is our losing at home to Palace [ who btw were on a run of five consecutive PL away wins ].

Agree with all your points there. Could have done with some Zarate magic recently.
He did well in buying Sakho, Kouyate and Cresswell but have to offset that with Carroll, Jarvis and potentially Valencia.

Also I think it was a huge error disenfranchising zarate, left no pressure on or opportunity to give downing a rest

agree, he royally fucked this season imo, partly due to his attitude of us being in a false position, lucky to be where are and changing how we played as soon as carroll and nolan were available. Add to that the surrender at Chelsea and the substitution of noble for cole at Tottenham, fucking disaster!

I don't hate him, and I'm grateful for the positives he brought, but most of all, it's a lot easier and quicker to write Sam. I do sometimes write Allardyce so as not to be repetitive.
How about BFS as a compromise?

Please don't call him Sam. It all seems a bit friendly, and implies a measure of support for the fat clueless cunt.

I completely agree with you about the positive sides of Allardyce, but I feel there are too many fans against him now for it to work. It may seem ungrateful to him, but he needs to go for someone who can unite the fans for the final season at Upton Park. It will be tragic to spend our last season there as West Ham Divided, with all this poisonous sniping that goes on.
I don't know who it should be, but we need a change that brings everyone together. As I've said before, I would love Sam to prove me wrong, and go on a run that transforms all opinions of him, but it's hard to see now. Too many fans against him won't back down, whatever he does, so he needs to be replaced, or perform a miracle starting last week at the latest.

The point is Anarchy is that Sam did what was wanted of him but now we are at the upper limit of his ability. There is nothing that we have witnessed this season or from his past performances that suggests he can deliver more than survival.
We need to thank him for his services and move on up.

Maybe it's just me but Allardyce has sucked all the joy out of our season.
After an electrifying start to the season we all had high hopes but it didn't take him long to revert to type and start hoofing long balls up to a big man up front and putting ten men behind the ball against the big teams to go for a draw.
Last 12 games we are 18th in the form table - relegation zone - and our record is:
P12 W 1 D 5 L 6
8 points out of a possible 36.
He says himself this is the best squad he's ever had so how does he explain form like that?
A better manager would have got so much more out of this squad and that's the bottom line.
